Design considerations

Real engineering notes from the press line.

  • ! The zinc coating on SECC adds 0.02-0.05 mm to material thickness - tooling must be adjusted vs SPCC.
  • ! Bend radii should be 1.5x material thickness minimum to avoid zinc coating micro-cracks.
  • ! Tight-tolerance features (below +/- 0.05 mm) require precision tooling and DFM review.

Frequently asked questions

Can you achieve +/- 0.05 mm tolerance on critical features?

Yes - on specified critical features (not overall). It requires precision tooling (wire EDM dies), DFM review, and adds 30-40% to tooling cost. Lead time extends to 10-14 business days for T1 samples.

Do you assemble electronics into the housing?

We partner with EMS providers for PCB assembly, but the metal housing supply and any hardware (gaskets, connectors) installation we do in-house. Specify your full BOM on the RFQ form.

What is the smallest sensor housing you can stamp?

Down to about 15 x 15 mm with 0.5 mm material - though at that size we typically recommend CNC machining for dimensional control instead of stamping.
