Sensor case study
Industrial Sensor Housing
Tight-tolerance housing for vehicle detection sensors.
Sensor case study
Nickel-plated industrial sensor housing, close-up view of tight tolerance feature
Case summary
A European automotive sensor supplier needed 120,000 sensor housings per year with ±0.05 mm tolerance on the mating interface features. The 1.5 mm SECC base is stamped in a compound die, followed by four progressive bending operations and a decorative nickel plating to prevent corrosion in under-vehicle exposure. First-pass yield on production has been 99.4%; we run 100% in-process inspection on the three critical sealing surfaces using optical comparators.
Typical applications

Common questions
What inspection equipment do you use for ±0.05 mm tolerance?
We use a Hexagon Brown & Sharpe CMM for first article and periodic inspection, supported by optical comparators for 100% in-process checks.
